Jazz Ensemble

Under the direction of Dr. Thomas Wright, the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble comprises musicians with diverse backgrounds from the Spartanburg, SC, area.  Whether young or experienced, amateur or professional, the common tie is a love of jazz music.

 Established in 1996 under the auspices of the Spartanburg Community Band, the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble was formed to provide local musicians with an opportunity to deliver quality jazz performances to the public.  The Jazz Band performs at events such as Furman University Lakeside Concerts, Spartanburg Jazz on the Square, Fretwell, and regular concerts at Chapman Cultural Center and Wofford College. The Jazz Band also performs during the popular Ice Cream Sundays Summer Concert Series and Christmas Festival.

Membership is extended to qualified musicians without regard to race, color, creed, sex, or how long it has been since you last played. The Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble is an invitation-only ensemble due to the nature of jazz music requirements.
