Spartanburg Community Band is an all-volunteer concert band whose members are mostly amateur musicians from Spartanburg, SC and surrounding areas. The Community Band was founded in 1996 to serve two purposes:

1) to provide an opportunity for area musicians to continue performing after graduating from school

2) to provide free live music performances to the community

The Spartanburg Community Band performs regularly year round for various public events in and around Spartanburg, SC.  Our venues include Spartanburg’s Red, White and Boom July 4th celebration and Dickens of a Christmas.  Our Ice Cream Sunday Concert Series at Converse University, is an especially popular family oriented concert.  In addition, the band provides formal Spring, Fall and Christmas concerts, typically at the Chapman Cultural Center. Check out our Concert Schedule.

Mr. John Holloway directs the Spartanburg Community Band.  Rehearsals are Tuesday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Spartanburg Day School  in the band room located in the Mildred Harrison Dent Fine Arts Center. (Directions)

The Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble, an affiliate of the Community Band, is conducted by Dr. Thomas J. Wright.  The Jazz Ensemble rehearses Sunday evenings at USC-Upstate.  Membership to the Jazz Ensemble is by invitation only.
